But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you felt morphs into a groan.

Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

The volcanic eruption struck without warning, ravaging entire towns in its wake. Buildings shattered like sandcastles, and the screams that ensued was deafening. Thousands were trapped beneath debris, their fate precarious. The scale of the disaster was unprecedented, forcing survivors to face a future forever altered.

Awful Day Ever
It all started with the case of bedhead hair. I couldn't make it to look right. As I was dashing out the door, I trippedover and landed all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was completely running behind for a very important appointment.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
